Privacy Policy for Prayer Cycles

Prayer Cycles (“the app”) is designed to be private by default. It is meant to be a quiet place, not a record of your achievements. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
The short version
Prayer Cycles does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your data. Everything you enter stays on your device. There are no accounts, no servers, no analytics, and no third-party tracking. The app makes no network requests of its own at all.
What the app stores
The app stores the following on your device only:
- Prayer lists and their settings — name, description, how often the list comes round, tags, and whether the list is active
- Individual prayers, including their titles, descriptions and tags
- A count of how many times each prayer has come up. This is never shown to you; it exists so the app can surface whoever you have prayed for least recently, rather than repeating the same name.
- Your preferences — theme, language, sound, sort order and timebox settings
- A recent copy of your lists and prayers, kept in the app’s own storage so your data can be recovered if the main database is cleared
The app does not keep a history of when you prayed, or how long you prayed for. Earlier versions did; that was removed, and the stored history was deleted with it.
How your data is protected
Your lists and prayers are encrypted at rest on your device. The app cannot read them without the encryption key.
On iPhone and iPad, that key is held in the system keychain. Keychain syncing is enabled, so if you use iCloud Keychain the key may be synced to your other Apple devices by Apple — that is the one way it can leave the device, and it is governed by Apple’s privacy policy rather than this one.
If you use the app in a web browser instead, the key is held in the browser’s own storage, which is less strongly protected than the keychain. Anyone with access to your unlocked computer and browser profile could reach it.
What the app does NOT do
- It does not send your data to any server.
- It does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking tools.
- It does not require an account or any personal information.
- It does not share your data with third parties.
- It does not record when or how long you pray.
Backups and sharing
You can export your data to a backup file from within the app. The file is created on your device, and the app never uploads it anywhere.
The backup file is not encrypted. It is plain text, and anyone who opens it can read every prayer, description and tag in it. This is deliberate, so that you are never locked out of your own data — but it means you should treat the file the way you would treat a written prayer journal.
On iPhone, exporting opens the standard iOS share sheet so you can choose where the file goes — saving it to Files, sending it to yourself, or passing it to another app. Once you send it somewhere, it is covered by that service’s privacy policy, not this one.
Children’s privacy
The app does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same address with a new “Last updated” date.
